The annual Local 14 Art Show & Sale represents the artwork of approximately 95 talented women artists from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The original goal of the founders was to promote woman artists and offer the public an attractive mix of well-crafted, high quality, and original artwork. The concept has not changed over the years and the show has become a highly anticipated, very successful and well attended Portland event. The show opens with a gala evening celebration the First Thursday of October, and continues through Sunday evening, at the World Forestry Center in Portland, Oregon.
Local 14 Art Show & Sale was started in 1968 & 1969 with a group of 14 friends in the Portland suburb of Lake Oswego. (This explains the origin of the name, Lake Oswego Crafts & Art League). The group and show rapidly grew far beyond the boundaries of that small community and is now a four-day event. (Local 14 History)
Local 14 consists of approximately 50 member artists who meet throughout the year to plan each year's show. Each year up to 45 guest artists are juried and invited to participate in the show. The art is showcased in a gallery setting and often highlights special themes as part of the art work. Guests artists and members work together throughout the weekend to present one of the premier fine art and craft shows in Portland. (Guest Artist )
Many of the artists in the LOCAL14 show are represented by respected galleries and jury into the top art and craft shows in the West. And for other artists in the show the Local 14 event is their only public show of the year where one can see and purchase their work. The quality and variety of the art is excellent and there is always something new to see. (member gallery and guest gallery)
Local 14 has a mission to support and encourage professional and emerging women artists. This is accomplished by providing professional exposure to the community during the show, and by awarding scholarships to outstanding women art students (Scholarship Information).
